In the spirit of comfort let’s talk a little about the ultimate comfort creatures. Cats and dogs are masters of the snugglefest and definitely take their napping seriously…we could learn a thing or two from them.  These pictures pretty much say it all.  Now think of the thousands of shelter animals that are living in cold concrete cages with no blankets or bodies to keep them warm.  They are frightened and uncomfortable.  They don’t have the luxury of down comforters and cozy pillows, and they don’t get toys and treats to calm their worries. Animal Shelters rarely have the funding for these comforts and are in need all year round, not just when it’s cold out.  Pets bring so much joy and warmth to our homes it’s time we give back.  There have been numerous studies showing that shelter animals given blankets and comforters are more happy, relaxed, warm and have an overall increased sense of security.  This obviously increases their chances of getting adopted.

So, how do we help you ask?  Well…the first step is to collect all of those old blankets, towels, sheets, comforters and unused pet beds.  You can either contact your local shelters or do a search for organizations and local blanket drives in your area. We found one here in the Los Angeles area; Operation Blankets of Love where we will be donating.  This simple act of kindness can make such a difference this Holiday Season.  Get your families, children, friends and neighbors involved.  This would be a fun way to teach your kids about service and compassion.  We would love to hear your stories, please share!

Not sure if it’s the rain here in L.A. or just the time of year but our moods have been wandering to the cozy side.  Curling up on the couch with a cup of joe and a good book seem to be on the top of our to do list lately.  Either that or just staying under the covers all together.  There is something so amazing about the feeling of comfort.  Whether, it’s the comfort of our homes, comfort of a friend’s voice in a time of need or simply the comfort of a warm sweater and beanie on a cold day.  This time of year makes us feel warm all over and so does that picture of Ryan Gosling!!!! Hahaha!!  Now talk about Eye Kandee!!! There is nothing more comforting than getting into the Christmas spirit.  We love the whole process of transforming our homes into a magical winter wonderland and then sitting back and getting lost in the twinkling lights and the scent of pine and gingerbread.  What are some of your favorite Christmas comforts?

We hope you all had a blessed holiday, now on to the next!  I’ve already started listening to Christmas music and I can’t wait to get my tree up and decorated. Can you tell what color mood we are in?  Oxblood!  Really?  Who’s the Queen Bee that has the privilege of naming colors?  I want that job!  What happened to Burgundy and Maroon? …or even Merlot?  Well despite the name we are in the mood for all things Oxblood.  Maybe not all at once, but there are some pretty amazing Oxblood pieces out there right now.  It’s Cyber Monday, so we’re off to start our Christmas shopping.  What better way to kick-start our favorite time of year!

Happy Thanksgiving!! We realize we have been a little MIA with posting and we apologize, but we couldn’t let this Thanksgiving go by without a little holiday inspired Eye Kandee.  Who doesn’t love Thanksgiving?  What a lovely time to be with family, enjoy the comforts of home, indulge without guilt (hopefully), and do it all with a gracious spirit.  We all have an abundance of blessings and this is the perfect time to take stock of them and be thankful.  We wanted to give a special thanks to all of our Gypsy Luster followers!!  It means the world to us that you check out our blog everyday!!  So, we hope everyone has a peaceful Thanksgiving day celebration planned surrounded by loved ones and lots of yummy food!!!  Happy Turkey Day!!

Look at these faces!! Pretty precious, right?  I saw an article on ASPCA’s facebook page a little while back that really caught my attention.  I know we often hear about the mistreatment and cruelty of cows at factory farms, but this particular article had to do with dairy farms. They had a video showing the severe abuse of some dairy farm cows by some employees at a California Dairy Farm.  I couldn’t bring myself to watch the video, but the thought of it sure did raise awareness in my mind.  I feel like we all should educate ourselves and be aware of where our milk, meat and produce comes from.  I think we need to take a stand to not support these facilities that brutally harm these animals for no reason at all. I know there are many dairy farms that do love their cows and treat them like parts of their family and those are the farms that i want to support and buy my products from! I think it’s an issue to be aware because cows are living, breathing and beautiful animals that are unable to protect themselves when attacked. That kind of abuse is disgusting and I hope if we all make small steps to be more cautious of where we buy our food from, it can make a small difference in the lives of these animals and a healthier choice for us as well!  Its Friday everyone!!!  Enjoy every second of it!

Look at these innocent eyes.  They can can melt your heart in a second!!  Right now, these innocent eyes need all the help and support they can get. There are so many families and their pets being affected by the wrath of Hurricane Sandy.  Homeless and without food and supplies.  I know it’s hard to physically be present to help these disaster victims if you don’t live in the areas affected by this massive storm, but there are still many ways that we all can help.  You can go to your nearest local animal shelter and donate food and supplies or you can also donate to ASPCA , the wonderful organization that is helping these victims on the east coast by responding and providing relief in the areas that have been most affected by Sandy’s impact.  Any support helps at least one family and one animal!!  Lets all take care of each other because you never know when your going to be the one that needs taken care of!  Have a great Friday!!

Happy Halloween!!  The holiday that adults can play dress-up!!  What a fun time of year!!!!  A time, when we can dress up and play a role we have secretly dreamed of always being.  The ideas are endless and that is where the fun and creativity comes in! Pictured above are a handful of costume ideas I have thought about being over the years!!  This Halloween, I’m in North Carolina and Andee is in Greece (Lucky girl).  So, we didn’t get to do our traditional last minute Halloween shopping together and I won’t be dressing up.  So, I’m going to be vicariously living through all the wonderful costumes I see!!!  So whether, you are dressing up yourself, your kids or even your dogs (if your like me), we hope you have a fun night full of parties, pumpkins and of course CANDY.  Hope everyone has a haunting, but safe Halloween.  Signing out from North Carolina, Happy Halloween Y’all!!!

Boo!!  Well with Halloween just around the corner what could be more fitting than a Furry Friday dedicated to the beauty of the black cat?  Did you know that because of the stigma that black cats carry they are the last cats to get adopted and the first to get euthanized.  People actually believe that they are evil and bad luck!  This is obviously not true, but black cats still suffer.  We have always thought the opposite; they are definitely good luck in our book and there are a number of cultures that believe the same.  So this Halloween, if you are looking to save a life remember, black cats are known to bring good fortune.  No one likes to be judged by the color of their fur!  Hopefully you all have a spooky Halloween party planned this weekend.  Happy Halloween!!

We are always for all black.  There are so many ways to spin this look, and it’s always easy and classic.  I’m swooning over the black Chado Ralph Rucci dress with the sneak peek of hot pink!  Amazing!!  How can you not love anything that’s sexy and mysterious on the outside but yet soft and feminine on the inside?  Surprise details are always a must!  …And the Dior ballet heels on Mila…I have not words other than, PERFECTION!!  We hope you are all having a fabulous October!!

Furry Friday…Dance the Flamingo

Today is a fabulous day for several reasons!!  It’s Friday which is always exciting, it’s Furry Friday here at Gypsy Luster and most importantly it is ANDEE’S BIRTHDAY!!!!  YAYA!!!  Love my friend so much!!   I wanted to dedicate this weeks Furry Friday to one of the greatest friends a girl could ask for!!  While working on the blog and doing our Furry Friday research, I’ve realized how much she admired the exquisite allure of the flamingo!  Which is fitting because they actually remind me of her.  Known to symbolize, beauty, balance and grace, flamingos are the dancers of the animal world, reminding me of tiny ballerinas. They even look like they are wearing a permanent tutu!  If you didn’t know, Andee is a gorgeously trained ballet dancer!! She is truly the most elegant ballet dancer I have seen in Los Angeles!  She has an amazing gift of feminine and delicate qualities that she brings to her craft, it’s so natural, you can’t take your eyes off her!  So, between the long legs and the graceful poses, I feel like the similarities are dead on!  Not to mention that flamingos are these amazing shades of pink, which happens to be Andee’s fav color! She is a gifted dancer, a loving nurturing friend and an all around amazing human being destined to do amazing things!  I feel blessed and lucky to know her on my journey through this crazy life!!  Can’t wait to see what her future holds in these next exciting years!  I added some pictures of Andee in a dance photo shoot she did at the end!  So, enjoy!
