It’s Furry Friday again!!  We thought since last weeks topic was a little heavy we would lighten things up a bit.  Animals are always fashionable!!  Aren’t these editorials amazing?  They kind of remind us of the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas commercial ‘Just the Right Amount of Wrong’ where white puppies, kittens and bunnies come abounding out of an elevator.  It’s so chic…and a little weird but we love it!!

Animals don’t always have to be worn as fur to inspire fashion.  There’s an animal in all of us and we often express this through our personal style and mood.  Whether it’s by wearing feathers to bring out that gypsy in you, or by rocking a leopard print to bring out that sexy siren.  Looking at these photos remind us that there are so many textures and patterns that are influenced by animals.

Just a reminder to help spread the word about Pet Harbor.  This is a website where you can find animals in your local shelters.  If you know anyone looking to get a pet please encourage them to adopt.  There are so many animals in need of a good home.  Have a blessed day!!  K&A

Hint of Mint

Mint is in!!  We have been seeing mints and pastels all over fashion week. Pastel hues are going to be a must have for spring.  Right now in L.A. it’s still cold enough to be sporting that faux fur you bought at the beginning of the season so, I figured I would combine the two while I still can.  I know it’s still really cold in most places so this is a great way to invite an early spring while staying warm and cozy.  I actually bought these pants a few months ago at Crossroads Trading Company.  At the time I hadn’t seen a lot of mint but I knew colored denim was in and I loved this color so I took a chance.  I’m glad I did!!  I’ve been loving them so far and I will be able to wear them all spring and summer.  What do you think?  Is mint going to grace your wardrobe this season?  Have a lovely day!!   xo, A

Some more street style inspirations, this time from London Fashion Week.  Just like New York, there was a lot of fur, leather and layers.  We also saw a trend of blue.  Royal, navy, denim…whether it’s just a pop or the whole ensemble, it was all over the streets of London.  There was also a few sightings of polka dots!  Could this be the rebirth of the polka dot?  We’re not sold; but hey, you never know it might grow on us! What’s your opinion?  Have you always been a fan?

Hope this leaves you in a blue mood! ;)   K&A

Shailene Woodley- White Valetino Couture Gown, Oscars

This year was a little more challenging for us, as far as finding dresses we were madly in love with.  It was also the first time we slightly disagreed on some of the styles and our top picks.  Although we loved all the looks chosen, it wasn’t our most adored award season.  We did agree that Shailene Woodley was our favorite. We both fell in love with this 60′s inspired Valentino Couture dress, since we both love that era of fashion.  We thought that Sarah Jessica Parker’s ballet pink ball gown and leather jacket was an edgy choice that fit her amazing fashion sense and personality.  We even loved the white gloves…so Carrie Bradshaw!  We were smitten with Jenna Dewan’s teal dress because it was vibrant, young and the color pop from the earrings added a modern elegant look. Emma Stone’s black Alexander McQueen dress brought us back to the fifties.  We felt she was channeling Audrey Hepburn.  However, we thought bright red lips would have finished off that classic look.  What do you think?  Any favorites?

Until next year!  K&A

Furry Friday… Dog Fighting

ASPCA, dog fighting, furry friday, Stallone the bulldog, The Humane Society

We received an email on this very important issue and thought we should share some information into the scary world of dog fighting.  We thought it was a great way to educate ourselves and our readers.  The Humane society and ASPCA are fighting everyday to put an end to dog fighting and to urge our legislation to put forth harsher laws and penalties for those who are not only operating these horrific fights but also for those just spectating.  They have seen a decline in the large-scale dog fighting operations in the last decade, but there has been an increase in urban areas, neighborhoods and underground dog fights.

{Via}

The Humane Society of the United States is urging us to help close the gap in federal law to increase the penalties of animal fighting spectators. This includes all animals, hog-dog fighting and cockfighting. The spectators are the ones that are funding this horrible act.  If there were no spectators, there would be no fights.  It will only take a few minutes of your time to make a difference.  They are just asking us to make a quick phone call to your U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative to urge co-sponsorship.  Please click on this LINK and see just how easy it is.

The chart below is a ranking of state dog fighting laws.  It’s interesting to find out how your state stands on this issue.

 {Via}
The main reason people get involved in dog fighting is, of course, greed. Major dog fight raids have resulted in seizures of large amounts of money so you can imagine that there is nothing good about this environment and often involves other crimes including drug, alcohol and weapons violations as well as probation violations, corruption of minors and money laundering. Not to mention, arguments over dog fights have also resulted in incidents that have led to charges of assault and even homicide. THIS IS A PROBLEM!
{Via}
Below is a picture of Stallone. This is the face of dog fighting! Click on his picture to see a video of his story put together by the Humane Society. It’s graphic and heartbreaking but it’s important to know what’s going on.
Dogs who fight usually have their ears and tails clipped so that there is less for another dog to hold onto.  This is done by the owner, not by a Veterinarian. Dogs rarely get proper medical attention and suffer injuries including puncture wounds, lacerations, blood loss, crushing injuries and broken bones. Although fights are not usually to the death, many dogs die from their injuries later.
{Via}
The losing dog is often discarded with no treatment for their injuries or killed. If the losing dog has been an embarrassment to the reputation or status of its owner, it may be executed in a particularly brutal fashion as part of the “entertainment.”
{Via}
Ok, now that we are officially depressed…have a great Friday!  Please help with this issue, even if it’s just passing it along via Facebook or Twitter.  Have you done any good today?  Thanks for your help.  Have a happy weekend!!  K&A
How can you deny that face??

Color blocking has been a trend we’ve been seeing a lot this past year and is carrying over into 2012.  It’s all about bright colors.  If you are anything like us you, tend to stick to the basic neutral shades.  Color blocking is a good way to explore color and really show your personality.  We love bright colors, but usually incorporate it into our wardrobe in small doses.  When working with this trend, colors in the same hue usually look great together; red/pink, fuchsia/orange, pink/purple.  While these feminine hues are our favorite ways to color block, there are other ways to rock this look, like the aqua/red look above seen at the New York Fashion Week Diane Von Furstenberg show.  This trend is here to stay through 2012 so have fun with it.  Bright colors will be great for spring/summer and more muted colors for fall.  If this it too much for you, start with adding bright pops of color through accessories or in pieces that have already color blocked for you like here and here.  However, the biggest tip for this trend is wearing it with complete confidence!  We decided to do our own version of color blocking…Valentine’s style!  We will be posting our look tomorrow.  K&A

Gypsy Luster Resolutions

01 Wednesday Feb 2012

Tags

art, carrie bradshaw, fashion risks, health, just love, more dancing, new years resolutions, read more

Ok, we know January has passed and we should have written New Year’s resolutions already, but we’re firm believers that it’s never too late.  While reading the February issue of Vogue, I was inspired by an article about model/musician Abbey Lee Kershaw.  In it she said, “I don’t rely on the Earth ending its yearly dance with the sun to make positive changes in my life, I make resolutions each moment as necessary.”  While this was eloquently said it got me to thinking…I have to disagree.  I think we all need something to aspire and hope for.  A hope that no matter how hard and discouraging life was last year, this is a new year, a fresh start and a new chapter full of things that have never been.  I think we all need the belief that every passing moment is another chance to turn it all around, and what better time to begin than at the end of the Earth’s yearly dance!  So let’s all resolve to make it an amazing year; a year to be savored!

I saw this in Studio City while out shopping and I couldn’t help but smile.  Let’s all welcome 2012 with open arms and an open heart that this may be the year all our dreams come true.  You never know…lightning may strike!

Even though we are a month into 2012 we decided to share with you our New Years Resolutions. We hope that this will inspire you to get back on track with the resolutions you made a month ago or come up with your own list of aspirations for 2012.  Either way, it’s not too late to recommit to a fulfilling year.

We want to focus not so much on all the things we shouldn’t eat but more on the things that we should be eating.  It’s so important to fuel our bodies with fresh clean food.  We have both been into juicing lately.  It’s such a great way to get a large amount of nutrients in one sitting and it’s great for your skin.  Also, exercise is something we all try to recommit to and it’s so important.  This year, focus on doing it for your health and the hot body will come with it.

Take fashion risks!  We believe that life is too short to play it safe, especially with the way you look.  A lot of people get comfortable in the mundane, but secretly long for the glamour. We’re too scared to switch up our style often because of what other people might think, or if you’re like me, you tend to dress according to your mood and sometimes that can be scary!  So If your heart skips a beat every time you see those studded heels or you have always secretly wanted to rock red lips as well as Gwen, we say go for it!  Why not!  The great thing about style is you can always change it so why not have fun with it?  Let’s all get in touch with the Carrie Bradshaw in us and have a little fun!  So venture out of the everyday neutral eye make up and add a pop of blue here and there or go buy those leather pants you’ve been seeing all over the magazines (they’re hot right now).  It’s a new year and it can be a new you.

We’re both dancers and this is one of our personal goals this year.  I had an injury this last year and have spent the last six months in recovery and in therapy.  It has been a long road but I am finally ready to get back in the studio and back in shape.  Katie got a job this last year that has kept her extremely busy and while she has been dancing she hasn’t been able to do the kind of dancing that she wants.  So this year we’ve decided that there will be more dancing!  Dancing is good for the soul so even if you are not a professional dancer it’s something we can all benefit from. Whether it’s to de-stress or to loose weight go find a class where you can cut loose and have some fun.
Wouldn’t we all love to travel more?  This year we are going to be adventurers.  Whether it means packing our bags or just experiencing the new.  There is so much to see and do in this city and we want it all.  We will be experiencing L.A. like never before and we will be sharing it with you. Go do what you’ve never done and experience the new. Life awaits.
What a great time to expand our knowledge and learn something new.  A new skill, a new sport, an art or a trade.  What are you going to learn this year?
There is something so magical about books.  I dream of someday having a beautiful library with rolling ladders and a cozy couch and a purring cat by my side.  A place to escape the world and get lost in a good book.  We have so much media and technology these days that sometimes it’s hard to focus on reading.  When we say reading we mean reading actual books, not audio books or Kindle’s or ipads.  Let’s get back to the simpler life of less distraction.  I love to buy books but have been notorious for not finishing them. This year we will read (and finish) more books. Any suggestions?
{All pics via Pinterest}
We will love and serve more because nice matters.  You never know how a small act of kindness will impact someones life.  Make it a point to be kind to everyone and really search out ways to help people.  Even if it’s just to be there for a friend in need.  Remember that everyone is fighting a hard battle, so love more.  The world needs more love.
That’s it!  Hope you are inspired to make it an amazing year!  We would love to hear some of your New Years Resolutions.
Much love,  K&A

bliss, born to be free, follow your bliss, happiness, journeys

{Via}

“To know what you prefer instead of humbly saying Amen to what the world tells you you ought to prefer, is to keep your soul alive”  Robert Louis Stevenson reminds us.   We are all born to be free! Free to choose how we spend our days, free to follow our dreams and free to discover what it is that truly makes us happy. Everyday so many of us get caught up in the daily grind of work and added life stressors.  Sometimes, there are places and moments that just take our breath away.  A place to escape to free your soul and enchant all your thoughts.   A moment that brings out the true authentic you and helps revive and recharge those batteries.  Whether it be a blissful beach or just curling up on the couch with a good book and a cup of joe…or maybe it’s feeling the rain on your face on a stormy day or watching black and white movies on Sunday with your love. These moments can be so freeing the happiness is child-like.  These pictures represent those moments of absolute bliss for us.  We are all on a journey to find what what truly ignites our souls and makes us happy.  Follow us on our journeys and discoveries and tell us what it is that brings you bliss.

Love of animals is one of our biggest shared passions!  Nothing melts our hearts more.  It was hard to narrow it down, but here are just a few of our favorite photos of these spiritual companions.  In Sarah Ban Breathnach’s book Simple Abundance she so eloquently describes the emotional bond and benefits of sharing our lives with these four legged creatures:

“The physicians and psychologists say that loving, caring for, and spending time with animals enhances our well-being. Anyone how has ever been adored by a dog or adopted by a cat probably can’t convey in words the emotional bond that grows between them.  That’s because dogs love us unconditionally and cats are big on redemption.  Our sins and short comings don’t bother them as long as we delight in their presence.”

 Follow us every Friday for our Furry Friday posts where we will be featuring a few animals from local shelters.  We will also be in search of other ways to be advocates for animals.     K&A
