There are so many things we love about this time of year and one in particular is it’s the beginning of award season.  We are fascinated with the Hollywood celebrity just as much as the next person and love the movies!!  Here are a few great shots of some of our favorite classic stars and their pets.  Seriously, nothing makes you love a celebrity more than finding out they have a heart for animals.  We love it when stars use their celebrity to help create awareness. Actor Ian Somerhalder is a perfect example of this, he founded the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.  They are currently working on opening an animal sanctuary that creates a safe place for all the outcast animals that have been neglected, mistreated and ultimately misunderstood.  As well as bringing them together with kids and bullies into an environment where their hearts can grow and flourish.  What a great cause!!  Check out their website to learn how you can help bring this sanctuary to fruition.  Remember, if nothing else, creating awareness is a way of helping so please share, share, share!!!  Have a beautiful weekend!

TGIF!!!  Another week has gone by and we can’t believe how fast time flies. We thought this array of cruisin’ cuties would put a smile on your faces today. Also it gives us an opportunity to tell you about We-Care.com.  They have partnered with ASPCA so you can make a donation at no extra cost when you book travel and shop at a number of merchants.  All you have to do is register and you will be automatically donating to a cause of your choice when you shop.  Shopping with a purpose…now that’s our kind of shopping!!  So, if you know you are going to be booking a vacation soon this is a great time to register.  These types of organizations make it so easy for us make a difference, so if you ever wonder how you can help this is a great way.  We don’t get anything from sharing these links on Furry Friday. These are truly just topics we care about and want to share with you, so we thank you for reading and supporting!  Hope you have a lovely weekend!

ROCK THE RED

In honor of Women’s History month we thought we would discuss one of the easiest and most statement-making beauty transformations…wearing lipstick.   What better way to make a statement than the timeless crimson red?  Women have been wearing red lipstick for centuries and throughout the times red lipstick has spoken many languages.  In the 1920′s flapper girls dared to push the envelope!!  They sported the red shade to symbolize their independence and utra-feminine spirit.  In the 1930′s and 40′s this trend was quickly attributed to sex and prostitution and signified adult sexuality and womanhood.  Teen girls were discouraged from wearing it.  It wasn’t until the 1950′s that actresses like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor brought back the dark red lips on the silver screen.  The rouge finally represented a more glamourous and accepted impression.  Thanks to all the women, past and present, that have had the bold confidence to be different and dramatic.

The great thing about red lipstick is how incredibly versatile it is….anyone can pull it off! Whether you are blond, brunette or red head, the color is striking.  It flatters every skin tone and any style. Day or night, dressy or casual, the color compliments!  The 2012 Fall runways and street fashionistas have been paying homage to Hollywood’s golden age by truly bringing back red this season.  We have fallen in love with a new ombre like trend we saw at the Nina Ricci Fall 12/13 show; it’s bright red lips with a slightly darker shade in the center.  What a perfect way to put a spin on the usual cherry red.  Combine that with a winged eye and you’ll be worthy of stepping into an Audrey Hepburn film.  One of our all time favorites is Mac’s Ruby Woo.

Around the 1950′s women were really coming into their own with their new found power at home and in the workplace, so women were seen with bright cherry red lips at all times of day and at any occasion.  This was an era of elegance and glamour.  If red lips have been a symbol of beauty, independence and glamour why don’t the women of today wear red lipstick more?  Are we scared to wear something so bold that says look at me?  Or have we gotten so comfortable that we have lost that classic elegance?  We think it might be a combination of both!  Red lips are a bold statement so why not wear them with pride.  During world war II lipstick was passed around the factories that woman worked in to help boost their moods.  We know we feel prettier when wearing red lips!   Checkout some of our favorite red lip looks below.

Give it a try!  Especially if you’re not used to wearing red.  Let’s all ROCK THE RED in honor of women!  If people stare it’s only because your bold and beautiful!!  K&A
