Happy Friday lovelies!! With all this talk about puppy mills and adoption we couldn’t leave out another one of our favorite furry friends. Cats! Cat’s tend to get a bad rap and the term “cat person” often comes with an err of judgement. There are certain stigmas and stereotypes attached to cats…black cat and bad luck, women who love cats will become lonely old spinsters. They also have the reputation of being evil and unfriendly. This is so not true!! Cats are lovers!! We mistake them for being aloof when actually they are being wary and once we earn their trust they are quite affectionate.

We believe this is true. Cats are spontaneous, graceful and loyal. They have a meditative nature about them that oozes confidence and creates a sense of mystery. These are all qualities we would love to posses. Right?

There are 6-8 million cats and dogs that enter shelters each year and 3-5 million of those animals are not making it out alive! This does not include animals that die on our streets due to neglect, abandonment, injury and starvation. It’s heart wrenching!! The fact is the majority of these animals are cats due to their ability to produce large litters and many come into the shelters with no owner identification. On top of that, black cats rarely get adopted and get euthanized first due to the negative superstitions attached to them. I have always thought the opposite of black cats…I believe they’re good luck!! As do other countries like Ireland and Great Britain.
If you are looking for a new best friend consider a cat and please adopt from a shelter! If you have a cat already make sure your cats have identification tags (even if they’re indoors) and please spay and neuter them. This is so important! Neutering a cat extends its life span by two or three years, so not only will you be helping with the overpopulation crisis, you’ll have more time to share with them. I saw this commercial from The Shelter Pet Project the other day and had to share it. Watch it, it’s hilarious!! ’A person is the best thing to happen to a shelter pet…be that person!’.
